The Washington Graded School

The Class of 1898, with 20 graduates, was the fifth graduating class from the Washington Graded School.

Mr. John B. Duffie, the first Superintendent, died during the 1898 school year, on October 25, 1897, at just 35 years of age. He resigned at the end of the 1895 school year due to his failing health and was replaced by Dr. Samuel H. Edmunds.
